West Mercia Energy (WME) is proud to celebrate the latest achievement of its dedicated team, who spent a rewarding day volunteering at Wyre Forest, managed by Forestry England. On the 9th of October, nine WME staff members braved the wet weather and rolled up their sleeves to help clear vegetation along the Wyre Forest Butterfly Trail.
This important initiative is part of WME’s ongoing commitment to giving back to the community, supported by our staff volunteering policy, adopted last year. The policy enables staff to take two paid days each year to volunteer their time for worthy causes. For this particular project, the WME team focused on clearing overgrown vegetation along the banks of the butterfly trail, promoting varied regeneration and creating a better environment for butterflies to thrive in the area. Kate Alder, from the Visitor Experience Team at Wyre Forest, praised the team's efforts: "We were delighted that the WME team were willing to get stuck in, despite the wet conditions. We were so impressed by the work completed on the day, it really did surpass our expectations."
The event was a huge success and marked the beginning of what WME hopes will be a long-term relationship with Forestry England. Future volunteer days are already being discussed, as WME looks forward to continuing to support conservation efforts in the region.
