Our Social Value Vision Statement

We are committed to driving social value through every aspect of our operations for the benefit of our staff and our customers. We aim to positively impact our communities, environment, and economy by integrating social value into our business operations, key supplier contracts, and customer relationships.

Social Value That Supports Public Sector Procurement

As a publicly owned organisation, WME understands the responsibilities and expectations placed on public sector buyers.

As well as embedding social value internally, we work closely with our suppliers and framework partners to ensure social value is incorporated throughout our supply chain. This includes encouraging sustainable practices, local engagement, skills development and responsible business behaviour, ensuring our frameworks deliver value beyond cost and compliance.

By working with WME, customers can be confident that social value is being delivered alongside robust, compliant energy services.

Our social value approach is designed to support:

  • Public Contracts Regulations requirements

  • Social Value Act principles

  • Local authority and education procurement strategies

  • ESG and sustainability objectives

Key Social Value Initiatives

WME has two flagship social value initiatives aimed specifically at the education sector.

WME’s Social Value Fund provides direct grant support to schools to deliver projects that benefit their communities. Since it’s launch in 2024, it has supported 101 projects, awarding £95,137 for initiatives that have improved sustainability, enhanced learning environments, and delivered positive local outcomes.

WME also provide free, curriculum-linked STEM and sustainability workshops for schools. These workshops bring energy and sustainability concepts to life, helping to inspire students and support teaching around climate awareness, energy use and future careers. To date, WME’s delivery partner has delivered 57 workshops benefitting c 2,500 students.

In addition, the WME team have access to two paid volunteer days each year. Last year, some 95 hours were utilised, including a staff day at Wyre Forest where the WME team focused on clearing overgrown vegetation along the banks of the butterfly trail, promoting varied regeneration and creating a better environment for butterflies to thrive in the area.
